Varanasi's employers are not one type. A Banarasi saree karkhana in Madanpura or Lohta, a hotel near Dashashwamedh or Assi Ghat, a hospital near BHU, a coaching centre in Lanka, a distributor in Chandpur industrial area — each has staff, wages and a register. Most still keep that register on paper. This guide is for them.

What Banaras employers tell us

• "Staff come late and the register shows 10 AM." A paper register is filled by the staff themselves.
• "Hotel staff work split shifts and nights." A shift from 10 PM to 6 AM gets counted as two half days.
• "Weavers and helpers are paid by the day or the piece." Hours worked must be clear before paying.
• "Festival season means extra hours." Dev Deepawali, Ganga Mahotsav and the wedding season mean overtime that nobody tracks properly.

What the law asks of a Varanasi employer (2026)

• Minimum wage: Uttar Pradesh revises rates every April and October. The unskilled rate was about Rs 11,021 a month from 1 October 2025. Since the Code on Wages came into force on 21 November 2025, it covers every kind of job, not only listed industries. (AscentHR)
• Professional tax: UP does not levy professional tax — do not deduct it.
• PF and ESI on a wage that is at least 50% of total pay under the new labour codes. (K&S Partners)
• Varanasi district is covered by ESIC; the employer must list each insured worker's family.

How HRPM fits a Banaras business

2. Night shifts stay one day. A night shift counts as one work day; the screen shows the calendar date and the work date clearly.

3. Reminders that ring. If someone has not punched by shift time, or did not punch back after lunch, the phone rings like an alarm. The firm decides the timings.

4. Hindi first. Workers who do not read English can use HRPM in Hindi.

Payroll (pay heads, salary structures, hourly pay) is being rolled out step by step.
